Perpetua Coast 50k – Yachats, Oregon
The Wy’East Trailfest in Oregon was originally scheduled to host the year’s USATF 50k Trail National Championships, but the August race was canceled due to wildfires, and the championships were moved to the Perpetua Coast 50k. The 31.1-mile race featured a lollipop-style course with 5,700 feet of elevation gain.
Anna Dalton smashed the women’s race with a 4:29 run that bettered the old course record by nine minutes. Theresa Fritz-Endres and Jessica Watychowicz were second and third in 4:55 and only 27 seconds apart.
The men’s race was closer, with Dylan Flewelling running 3:50 to beat Bayden Menton and Jack Matherly to the coastal finish. Menton and Matherly ran 3:57 and 4:05, respectively.
Cirque Series – Mount Baldy, California
The Mount Baldy race was the year’s 10th and final Cirque Series contest. This one went 9.1 miles with 3,926 feet of climbing, and the race winners again earned $1,000.
Lucinda Kolpa scored an upset women’s win over series regular Alexa Aragon. Kolpa was fourth overall in 1:49 and almost four minutes faster than second place. Aragon was second in 1:53 and only 17 seconds in front of third-place Jamie Brusa.
Mason Coppi dominated the men’s run in 1:25, and that was way ahead of everyone else. Noam Franchi (Ecuador) and Brody Barkan were second and third in 1:36 and 1:43.
Chihuahua by UTMB – Chihuahua, Mexico
The race courses were in and around the area’s famed Copper Canyon.
Alexa Romano (U.S.) and Cristofer Clemente (Spain) won the event’s longest course. Romano ran the 73-mile race in 18:11, and Clemente finished in 13:58.
The host country swept the 57-mile and 36-mile distances. Jennifer Yañez and José Luis Nieto ran 14:12 and 12:37 in the 57 miler, and Iris Citlali Sedano and Jonatan Uriel Mendieta ran 8:28 and 6:08 to lead the 36 miler.

Trail des Glières – Fillière, France
French runners took all of the top spots at the mountain event. Marie-Véronique Bouquiaux and Warin Tanguy won the 64k in 9:15 and 6:49, and Sophie Leroy and Octave Dusart were best in the 49k in 6:52 and 5:00. Caroline Chaverot and Timothée Courtois were best in the 21k in 2:26 and 1:58. Full results.
Morat-Fribourg – Morat, Switzerland
The road race was on an historic 17.2k route. Oria Liaci (Switzerland) won the women’s race in 58:38, and Brian Kipchumba (Kenya) won the men’s race in 51:57. Rémi Bonnet (Switzerland) was second in 52:00. Full results.
Cologne Marathon – Cologne, Germany
The 2017 World Mountain Running Champion, Victor Kiplangat (Uganda), was fourth in 2:07:57. Full results.
Pisão Extreme – São Pedro do Sul, Portugal
The event’s Skyultra 65k race was the Masters Skyrunning World Championships. Racing on a course with a massive 6,500 meters (21,325 feet) of climbing, Mirjam Saarheim (Norway) and Pedro Garrido (Portugal) won in 11:37 and 10:06. Full results.
Girdwood Trails Marathon – Girdwood, Alaska
The race explored the town’s rainforest trails, and Yvonne Jeschke and Scott Patterson won in 3:45 and 3:19. Full results.
North Bend Trailfest – North Bend, Washington
The event started with the Mount Si VK, going up 3,360 feet over 2.9 miles. Hillary Allen and Casey Campbell won in 51:06 and 39:21. The next day’s 30k race had a $4,500 prize purse, and Sarah Paxson and Dustin Mullaney won in 3:20 and 2:50. Full results (when available).
Angeles Crest 100 Mile – Wrightwood, California
The longtime race had Taelor Smith and Eduardo Morales as this year’s champs in 22:56 and 20:12. Full results.


Mammoth 200 Mile – Mammoth Lakes, California
The race ran in a giant 218-mile loop around the Eastern Sierra, and there was a $5,000 first-place prize. Mika Thewes and iRunFar’s own Gabe Joyes won in 54:03 and 51:35. Tracking.
Cuyamaca 100k – Julian, California
The race at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park east of San Diego had Andrea Deutsche and Patrick Rabuzzi as winners in 10:50 and 9:53. Full results.
Arches Marathon – Moab, Utah
The event’s 50k distance was led by Molly Kovell and Peter Samuelson in 5:41 and 4:44, and Chenoa King and R.B. Erickson won the marathon distance in 4:39 and 4:21. Full results.
DC Peaks – North Salt Lake, Utah
The 100-mile race had nearly 21,000 feet of elevation gain. Lecsi Glenn and Elijah Syndergaard won in 27:47 and 21:56. The 50-mile winners were Sophie Stiles and Micah Anderson in 11:03 and 7:47, and Molly Alexander and Tyler Davis were fastest in the 55k in 6:49 and 6:33. Full results.
The Bear Chase – Lakewood, Colorado
The races at Bear Creek Lake State Park ran as 12.5-mile loops. Katy Rothfelder and John Harris won the 100k in 12:39 and 9:59, and Lisa Albers and Jamichael Steen won the 50 miler in 9:29 and 8:19. Bobbie Pelham-Webb and Jeremy Brooks were best in the 50k in 5:18 and 4:14. Full results.
Sage Burner 50k – Gunnison, Colorado
A small 50k field was led by Sidney Andrew and Levi Stone in 5:06 and 4:47. Full results.


Swiss Valley Trail Races – Peosta, Iowa
The 50k race winners at the Swiss Valley Nature Center event were Emily Buchheit and Nolan Welbes in 6:02 and 5:22. Full results.
Grand Traverse – Duluth, Minnesota
The race on the Superior Hiking Trail celebrated Aimee Foster and Nate Rengo as its 27-mile winners in 5:40 and 4:43. Full results.
Hennepin Hundred – Sterling, Illinois
The races were point-to-point on the Hennepin Canal State Trail. Alicia Hudelson and Griffin Phenegar went 16:31 and 14:58 at the front of the 100 miler. Laura Sheridan and Nicholas Shaw won the 50 miler in 7:13 and 6:36, and Alyssa Farrell and Steve Froeschle were best in the 50k in 3:33 and 3:06. Full results.
Shawnee 50/50 Trail Runs – West Portsmouth, Ohio
In the Shawnee State Forest, Alexandria Lafreniere and Jamie Hanks won the 50 miler in 12:49 and 9:10, and Rebekah Zimmerer and Mark Scott were 50k champs in 7:16 and 5:41. Full results.
Bull Mountain Epic 50k – Dahlonega, Georgia
Running on three different loops on the Jake and Bull Mountain trail systems, Monica Joyner and Will Maclane won in 6:34 and 5:42. Full results.


Arkansas Traveller 100 Mile – Perryville, Arkansas
It was the race’s 35th year in the Ouachita Mountains, and Courtney Rouse and Jacob Phillips won in 18:49 and 16:47. Full results.
Naturalist 50k – Franklin, North Carolina
Women’s winner Deanna Doane finished in 5:29, and Canyon Woodward set a new men’s course record in 4:09. Full results.
